CCHSA, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization established as a support group for Christian home school families in the Alexandria/Pineville and surrounding area. We have both social and educational activities and we plan regular field trips for members who are interested. Each member family is individually responsible for choosing their method of home education. They may educate under either the "home study" program or under the "private school" definition (La. R.S. 17:236, Act 828 of 1980). They choose their own curriculum, and they are responsible for meeting state requirements. Information about curriculum or legislative action is often shared by members, but is not monitored by our group.
Our goals are to provide encouragement and support to Christian families who are presently teaching their children or who are interested in beginning. We want to enhance teaching skills by sharing information about home schooling, and we want to motivate friendships between Christian home school families and students by regular contact with one another.
The families in our group feel that returning the responsibility of training children to parents is as God meant it to be (Deut. 11:18-21, Joshua 1:8, Prov. 22:6, Eph. 6:4). The training includes biblical instruction and moral values on an equal basis with reading, writing, and arithmetic.
A support group relies on the creativity, imagination, contacts, and resources of its members. We are interested in any ideas or suggestions that you might have, preferably submitted in writing, since all of us find it difficult to remember everything we are supposed to and because we are jealous of our time and cannot afford to spend a lot of it on the telephone. If you should have a few brief questions about an activity, please call the contact number that is listed with that activity.
We have been a member group of CHEF of Louisiana (Christian Home Educators Fellowship of Louisiana), which is the state home school organization, since the 1996-1997 school year. This organization is not connected with state government. CHEF of LA attempts to connect and assist all of the different Christian home school groups in the state of Louisiana.
CHEF of Louisiana does keep up with current legislative activity that might affect home school families and they have contact with each local group to distribute this information. CHEF of LA group membership requires that the officers and members of the local group desiring CHEF of LA membership sign a statement of faith which also includes a statement of belief on family and on education. (The persons who desire membership should also be in confessional and ethical compliance with these statements. If they are found to be in non-compliance, membership will be revoked.) They also require annual dues of $10.00 per member family. This is paid through the local member group of CHEF of Louisiana (CCHSA). CHEF of LA accepts only group memberships, they do not accept memberships from individual families; that is why your dues are collected and sent in by our local group. CCHSA requires annual dues of $30.00 per member family. (This includes CHEF dues.) This helps pay for the newsletter, awards, copy costs, thank-you cards, facility rentals, etc. Payment arrangements for CCHSA membership are available upon request.
